Möckmühl

Interesting facts about the town‘s history

Discoveries from pre-Christian times pro-vide evidence of an early settlement in Moeckmuehl, which was first documented in the 8th century. The oldest spellings of the name are “Meitamulin, Meitemulen and Mechitamulin”. All these suggest the exi-stence of a mill. According to a legend, the name goes back to a Franconian noble lady called “Mechita” who was the owner of the mill, i.e. “Mechitamulin” means the mill of Mechita.
