Stadtmauer (town wall)

Our tour begins at the Jagsttor (Jagst tower gate) - which was demolished in 1831 to improve the flow of traffic - south-west round the town. A prominent feature of the old town is the surrounding town wall up to 7.80 m high and decorated with a continuous arched frieze. The oldest parts are more than 500 years old. In some places you can still see that it had a walkway to defend the town. Part of it was restored in 1978 (e.g. in the Untere Gasse, near the multi-storey car park).
