Stadtmuehle (town–mill)

The old mill was in continuous use until 1959. It had been in operation for more than 400 years. The building was demo-lished in 1964. The former hotel “Alte Stadtmuehle” was built on the site. Inserted at one corner is an old stone show-ing the water level during a flood on September 29th 1732. At the passageway near the tannery, you will find a short length of the outer wall which once existed all the way along the town-wall at a distance of 4 to 5 metres. The houses to the west along the former mill-channel are built on to it.Diagonally opposite the hotel “Alte Stadtmuehle” you can see the half-timbered house Hauptstrasse No. 44. According to a cornerstone of the building, it was built in 1707. In the 19th century, it was the house of the Seifensieder (soap-boiler), a trade that has disappeared a long time ago.
